The author of this second letter to Thessalonica is giving thanks to God for those who have been chosen from the beginning for salvation. They have been made holy through the Holy Spirit and their belief in truth, Jesus. God has a plan for salvation, the spreading of the gospel message, which is accomplished in Thessalonica by Paul, Silas and Timothy, preaching the Word of God. By hearing the Word and trusting Christ the people hearing the letter have been elected by God. Those who trusted the call of the gospel, now possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. When you believe you possess God’s glory, all who believe share in the glory of God. The author knows there are some who do not accept the truth but he gives thanks for those who have accepted, those who are hearing this letter read and will accept and those of us who are hearing the Word in our lifetime and accept the truth. This is wonderful acknowledgement of how we are called. God elects those who will be chosen, Jesus through Word provides the glory and the Spirit provides the grace of sanctification making them holy and separate. We cannot save ourselves, we depend on God’s choosing and election showing we are the beloved of the Lord. We are all called to eternal good things, with an end that is happiness. Not a happiness that comes from health, wealth, honors or sensual satisfaction but it is a happiness that we can only receive by knowing and loving God.
We should trust God is calling us to know Him and become the elect. When we believe truth, we are in possession of the glory of Christ, to be fully revealed when we meet Christ. Trust God, possess glory!
