Psalms 77:11-12 – September 27, 2019

I conclude: “My sorrow is this, the right hand of the Most High has abandoned us.” I will recall the deeds of the LORD; yes, recall your wonders of old. Psalms 77:11-12 NABRE

This is a psalm that begins with a cry, the author is crying for God’s help and isn’t hearing anything from God. The plea is emotional and the author is sure God will hear. In the prayer the author realizes it is God who is keeping him awake, God wants him to keep praying. So the author goes deeper in search of God and still there is no response. Thinking of his own personal suffering and remembering that God’s people are suffering as well causes even more distress in his mind. Now we read through sorrow the right hand of the Most High God has abandoned them. No longer pleading for himself he is pleading for the good of all the people. There are those who have been faithful and others who have not been faithful. Yet the prayer is for all. Slowly the author changes emotion remembering all the deeds of God, recalling all God’s wonders of old, returning his thoughts to the peoples rescue from the Egyptian slavery and the protection and care God provided in the desert. He reflects on God’s mighty deeds and pulls himself out of the funk and accepts that God’s knows best. Recalling the scene at the Red Sea where God parts the waters so the people could pass, knowing God truly does care about their salvation. God wants all the people freed, all the people saved. So there is no reason not to remember that God knows best.

We get the message of Jesus in this psalm when he speaks to God saying not my will be done but yours. In all we do and desire, God knows best. We may not get the answer we want when we pray but we must trust God will do what is best for us. Trust God!

Do you trust God? Are there moments when you think you are all alone?

In all we do and desire, God knows best. We may not get the answer we want when we pray but we must trust God will do what is best for us. Click To Tweet
