Isaiah 54:17 – June 9, 2019

Every weapon fashioned against you shall fail; every tongue that brings you to trial you shall prove false. This is the lot of the servants of the LORD, their vindication from me-oracle of the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 NABRE

Isaiah 54 is a beautiful hymn that celebrates the glory and restoration of Jerusalem. The hymn follows what is known as the servant song, a description of a servant who did no wrong but is relied upon to restore good. So in Isaiah 54 we see the first good done by the servant is the creation of the restored Jerusalem. This hymn follows the humiliations of the destruction of Jerusalem by Babylon, the people being taken captive, and finally released through the hand of God and returned to their home only to see the destruction that was laid upon their holy city. As the hymn develops so does the tenderness of God toward His city and His people. The city is described as a woman once barren but now has many children. The titles for her husband include Maker, Lord of hosts, Redeemer, the Holy one of Israel, and we see a husbands tender affection. The hymn goes on to describe the city reconstructed and that God himself, mighty and just guarantees the splendor and permanence of Zion. We see this described in the quoted verse, every weapon shall fail, every tongue attempting trial will be proved false. The Lord vindicates His people. As God protects the city, we see with Jesus that God will also guarantee the faith of the believers of Jesus.

God wants to protect us. God wants to guard our faith. God wants us to be the splendor of the world. We only need to accept and live to do the will of the Father. We are called to serve others and to live as a witness of the faith of a disciple. We can have all God wants to give us with a simple yes God.

Do you desire God’s protection? Are you willing to do the will of the Father?

We are called to serve others and to live as a witness of the faith of a disciple. We can have all God wants to give us with a simple yes God. Click To Tweet
