Isaiah 41:13 – June 2, 2019

For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 NABRE

The prophet Isaiah is portraying a picture of God who takes the still small hand of a child, the child He loves more than any other, comforting and declaring His aid for His child. The story is cast over the exile of the people of Israel. They had been taken from Jerusalem by the Babylonians almost forty years before this passage was written. It was seen as a punishment for their unfaithfulness, and lack of trust in God. God would use Cyrus of Persia to defeat the Babylonians and release the Israelites to return to Jerusalem. God is a God who allows punishment, but God never abandons His children. The quoted message is a centerpiece of God’s love. God declares, I am your Lord, your God. To be a parent so proud of His children that He must declare it out loud for all to know. A Father who is not shamed to take the small hand of His children, confidently alerting them He is there and not going anywhere. Speaking to His child while holding their hand; do not fear, I will help you; expelling all anxiety and worry and providing confidence in the future. This is our God, the Father who loves us and holds our hand pushing away all our fear.

Jesus brings us the image of a loving Father who will do anything for the benefit of His children. He teaches us of a Father who is tender and kind, loving and caring, compassionate and faithful. But as we see through this small message of Isaiah this is not a new image of the Father, he was always this way. Always be ready for your Father to bend low and hold your small hand reaching for His help.

Do you have an image of your Father holding your hand as the image of God? Can you find comfort in this image of God?

Always be ready for your Father to bend low and hold your small hand reaching for His help. Click To Tweet
