Romans 1:16 – December 19, 2018

For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: for Jew first, and then Greek. Romans 1:16 NABRE

Paul writing to the community in Rome has a strong statement about what he believes and what he will do for the gospel. The gospel is the Good News that Jesus the Son of God dwelt among us and sacrificed that we may have life. Christians who are not ashamed, like Paul, proclaim the gospel, they live it, and they do what they can to let others see how they live their life according to the gospel. Paul was one of those who was mocked and opposed for the message he was delivering, but Paul is not embarrassed to spread the faith boldly, nor does he have any fear of personal rejection. Paul’s entire life is turned upside down for the gospel and he was completely dedicated and joyful. The gospel is the power of God. Miracles occur, people lives are improved, the foolish shame the wise, the weak shame the strong, all with the power of the gospel. God provides a roadmap through the gospel we can simply follow. Paul says first the message was for the Jews. Jesus a Jew brought the message to the Jews because God’s covenant was with the nation of Israel. Jesus let them know the old covenant has been fulfilled and he introduces a new covenant. Once accepted by some Jews, the message is then spread to the gentiles, with great assistance from Paul.

If we are ashamed to proclaim the gospel how can we expect miracles in our lives? How can we expect the power of God for our salvation? We must be like Paul and shout we are not ashamed of the gospel and do all we can to make it come to life for others. The gospel is to be shared, so the power of God is available to all.

How do you share the gospel? Do to recognize the power of God in your life?
