Proverbs 12:25 – October 2, 2018

Worry weighs down the heart, but a kind word gives it joy. Proverbs 12:25 NABRE

Proverbs Chapter Twelve is attributed to Solomon, a man considered very wise. It is a wonderful message about worry. Worry weights a person down, it takes joy from their heart and moves our life in the wrong direction. This past Sunday Pastor @craiggroeschel gave a message on worry. It is in the context of the message series “Master Mind” which frames the theme; “Your life will always move in the direction of your strongest thoughts.” He used the reading from Paul in Philippians (4:6-9) who teaches not to be anxious but in every situation by prayer, and petition and thanksgiving, present your requests to God. In fact he went so far as to say “Worry is the sin of distrusting the promise and power of God.” Which if we believe in God is easy to believe. If we trust God, then why worry? When you want to worry about something, rather take these three steps; 1) Do what you can do; 2) Give God what you can’t do; 3) Trust God no matter what. The best practice is to know a true heart of peace, choose it, confess it and think it. You control how you think.

The second half of the verse is for Christians; give a kind word of joy to someone. Be ready to lift people up, to encourage people, to say something positive, not something negative. The spread of Christianity began due to the message and the first Christians became a community so encouraging others wanted to join. We can do this today; encourage others, everyone. Go out of your way to say a kind word of joy to someone, a friend, a stranger, everyone, kind words are always welcome. If you feel they aren’t’ being received, don’t worry, give them anyway.

Don’t worry, you are a beloved child of God, can you accept that? Can you spread a kind word of joy? It is easy to do on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
