1 Chronicles 16:11 – September 11, 2018

Rely on the mighty LORD; constantly seek his face. 1 Chronicles 16:11 NABRE

The books entitled Chronicles give a history of the people of God from Adam up to the Babylonian captivity. The focus is on building the temple and creating a temple ritual. It includes the history from Adam to King Saul, the history of King David and King Solomon and the kings who followed up through the end of the northern Kingdom, the fall of the southern Kingdom with their capture by the Babylonians through their release back to Jerusalem by the Persian King Cyrus. So it “chronicles” almost two thousand years of God and His people. Chapter sixteen has King David organizing a worship ritual which includes song. It is created to invoke the Lord’s name, thank the Lord and praise the Lord. It is a liturgical formula followed for years to follow. The invocation includes the joyful remembrance of the wonders worked by the Lord, thanksgiving that acknowledges God in all his works and praise of God for sharing His glory and glorying Him. The song itself is mostly taken from several psalms and encapsulates the thanks and praise of God. It is a song being sung by Israel, perhaps even years later as they return from exile in Babylon. It celebrates life and marvels at all God has done. It is a liturgical service that celebrates the people as God’s chosen with a nod toward being everlasting.

Having lost everything the people thank and praise the mighty God and long to see His face, to be present with Him. When we attend church service do we think about our reliance on God and yearn to be present with Him? A community praying together enjoys God’s presence. Immerse yourself in these moments and receive God fully.

Do you invoke God‘s name in need? Do you thank God for everything? Do you live in glory as God’s chosen?
