Son of man, you live in the midst of a rebellious house; they have eyes to see, but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear. They are such a rebellious house! Ezekiel 12:2 NABRE
Ezekiel the prophet is asked by God to make certain symbolic gestures about the deportation and exile of the king and the people for their infidelity. The symbolic actions of the prophet are designed to prove to the listener the truth of what is being said. Ezekiel leaves with exile baggage which should illicit feelings of fear for deportation. These gestures are a foreshadowing of the deportation and exile that will occur when the Babylonians attack and destroy Jerusalem, taking the people into enslavement. This oracle is announced in the first person indicating it is the Lord himself who is the cause of the exile, allowing the deportation. But this is also good news because it indicates the Lord is the one who will deliver the people from their imprisonment when it comes to an end. Though Ezekiel does as the Lord asks and acts out exile scenarios the people do not change and Ezekiel’s prophecy comes to reality. These oracles of Ezekiel are meant to move the people’s hearts and get them to put all their trust in the Lord, even in exile.
It seems we always need to be in control, to always want to hold on to our own destiny and feel like we can manipulate our own future. But the history of God’s relationship with His creation is one that declares trust in God, which brings the best happiness and joy possible, along with the most useful accomplishments in life. God is always trying to get us to trust, to let go of control and let God lead our lives. If we let go and let God, we will be blessed and joy filled.
Do you give control to God? Are you living your best life?
God is always trying to get us to trust, to let go of control and let God lead our lives. If we let go and let God, we will be blessed and joy filled.
