and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more. Luke 12:48 NABRE
Jesus teaches those who have been given responsibility must be responsible. Some have great knowledge and when they provide service will be richly rewarded based on their success and others who ignore their knowledge will be punished based on their failure. In the creation of the kingdom of God there are many roles. Paul tells us God has designated in the church apostles, prophets, teachers some with the gifts of healing, assistance, administration and varieties of tongues (see 1 Corinthians 12:28.) Given the various roles and the responsibility that comes with each role, there are consequences in success and failure. Each role comes with a certain amount of trust from God, the bigger the role the more God entrust to the person serving the role. In the roles we serve in the creation of the kingdom of God, we will receive gifts and grace. Jesus tells us we may receive more based on our role and in this case more will be demanded of us. In creating the kingdom of God it is important to serve well and accomplish our gifted tasks, no one can succeed for us and God is counting on us.
It might seem even where we are born can be looked upon as a gift from God. Those of us born in countries of wealth may have a much greater chance at success than those born in countries of poverty. Sometimes just the amount of energy expended on survival can hamper any effort to create the kingdom of God. If we live in ease we should serve in great demand of ourselves, we already have been given much.
Do you have much to be thankful for? How do you use the gifts given to you?
