and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11 NABRE
This verse concludes what has been commonly known as the Christ hymn. It is not clear if the hymn is something Paul himself composed or something he heard and modified or simply something copied from another person or text; but the entire hymn is worth reading again and again. It speaks of the humility of Jesus, entering humanity, humbling himself and dying on the cross. Living as He did God highly exalts Jesus declaring everyone should bow at Jesus name and every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God. Paul ends powerfully, declaring that Jesus lives, and dies for the glory of God. It is the emphasis of His entire life to do what the Father desires of Him. When we are humble and serve as Jesus has and we do it in the name of God, we are glorifying God. We can say nice things, praise God, sing to God wonderful hymns but it is the actions of our life that glorify God. We should live in a manner where we are humble, putting others before ourselves, living as a servant to all, saying our life is for God Almighty. God is deserving of our every breath and our declaration that all glory for how we live and serve is for God.
Jesus has every right to boasts and to seek glory but He chooses to glorify God. We as followers of Jesus should make the same choice. We should live for God and in the end declare God’s glory through all we have done. God leaves us free to choose how to live but when we live as Jesus has lived we too can be exalted by God. We can be good and faithful servants to the glory of God the Father.
How do you live your life? Do you understand what it means to give glory to God?
We should live for God and in the end declare God's glory through all we have done. God leaves us free to choose how to live but when we live as Jesus has lived we too can be exalted by God.
