The LORD will guard you from all evil; he will guard your soul. The LORD will guard your coming and going both now and forever. Psalms 121:7-8 NABRE
This psalm exhorts us to trust in the Lord, who is our protector. It begins with the call to lift our eyes to the hills, which may be a reference to Mount Zion, where God dwells. Looking to the hills causes the psalmist to question himself and then in a dialogue with God his faith in the God of Israel, the Creator of the world provides him with the answer. The psalm asserts the Lord is Israel’s keeper, guarding the psalmist on his journey. This psalm is one of the Songs of Ascent that pilgrims proclaimed on their way to the holy city for festival. This particular psalm records the trust and faith the pilgrim feels as he sets out on the journey. We too are on a journey, Christ exhorts us to trust God when He teaches His disciples about the Fatherly care that God has for each of us. We read, “Even all the hairs of your head are counted.” (Matthew 10:30) God watches over each us, we are all equally loved and cared for in a unique way. We all are different in the way we learn and journey to God our Father who uses the means best for us to provide us answers, care, protection and build our faith. For me it might be words that help me see and hear God, for others it may be pictures, or images, or experiences, or becoming desperate; God knows us better than we know ourselves and will use whatever means works best for us to let us know to trust in the Lord our protector.
We should be like God, invest in others, learn what is best for them to hear God seeks to have their trust and be their protector. If we want to share God and Christ with others we must find the voice that speaks into the other best.
Do you invite others? How do you invite?
If we want to share God and Christ with others we must find the voice that speaks into the other best.
