There is no Holy One like the LORD; there is no Rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:2 NABRE
The quoted passage comes from the song of Hannah. Hannah prayed to the Lord for a child and when God fulfilled her prayer she dedicated the child to the Lord. She was so happy to receive the child and prayed the song in praise of God. It is a song that praises God for his saving action among the people. Her child goes on to be the great prophet Samuel who has an important role in moving along the line of the King of Israel. Samuel was the prophet who chose and anointed David, King of Israel. David was from the line of Jesse and would hold the genealogical line into which the Messiah would come. Hannah’s song stresses God’s preference for the weak, the hungry, the barren and the needy over those who have plenty. She is describing a God that she loves and who she knows can accomplish anything and will always come to the aid of His people. The Magnificat, the song of Mary the Mother of Jesus’ is a prayer of thanksgiving that is inspired by Hannah’s Song. The Magnifcat completes the prophecy that sees God intervene into humanity in a definitive way through the life of Jesus.
These two women have important roles to live in God’s plan for his children. Both give all glory and credit to God. They are good examples of how we should pray for the will of God and then be thankful. In Hannah’s case she wanted to have a child and promised him to the Lord. Mary is simply an example of perfect receptivity, how to say yes to God. God’s plan is always the best plan, if we are open to say yes to God there is a good chance God can make something beautiful out of our life.
Are you quick to say yes to God? Is there something you want so much you would be willing to give it to God as soon as you received it?
God's plan is always the best plan, if we are open to say yes to God there is a good chance God can make something beautiful out of our life.
