Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his faithful ones, Proverbs 2:8 NABRE
The first ten lessons in proverbs are written as instructions to the people. The lessons are encouraging the reader to accept instruction, hold on to what they learned and always to acquire and treasure wisdom. In the second lesson the teacher links acquisition of wisdom to obeying his words. If God discovers that you are upright, that you are fertile ground, then He will bestow the gift of wisdom. Wisdom is not a kind of knowledge that can be obtained by your own effort, it is a gift that God gives people who have the right disposition. The Lord gives wisdom, He is a shield, He guards the paths of the just and protects the faithful ones. The enemy will try to attack and pull us away from righteousness. But God keeps His promise and protects us from the enemy. He has victory for the upright, for those who walk in integrity, He guards the just and protects the faithful. God will not let anything happen to those who are righteous and follow Him. God is constantly protecting those who choose to obey Him.
Receiving the gift of wisdom from God, we receive a special knowledge, and protection. In my life when I don’t pray, or fall away from prayer just a little, I am more prone to temptation, to laziness, to not doing the things that keep me walking a path of righteousness. When I pray, I am faithful to God, appropriate actions come easier, the path of righteousness is easier to follow, temptation is easily defeated, and I follow God’s word almost automatically. By staying close to God, I am more successful and joyful and I have wisdom to do what is best for me, which also happens to be the path God wants me to walk.
Do you recognize God’s protection in your life? Are you staying close to God so you can obtain wisdom?
