I will restore my people Israel, they shall rebuild and inhabit their ruined cities, Plant vineyards and drink the wine, set out gardens and eat the fruits. Amos 9:14 NABRE
Amos closes out his book on a positive note, declaring the Lord will take care of all those who follow and heed His word. It is a message of salvation, for those in the fallen northern kingdom, God will restore the remanent and rebuild the cities including vineyards and gardens. For the people hearing this from Amos or his disciples it is hopeful future in their life time. But God’s word can bring hope to us as well, we are promised a rich vineyard of grapes to make the best wine and a garden with the fruit God has for all. It is a kingdom we can imagine with abundance for all and a life filled with hope, peace and joy. Though Amos has pointed out injustices for most of his prophecy the final message is God never gives up on His people. God will always look for the salvation of those who seek Him, those who live life as He prescribes, lifting others and caring for those who need love. God will provide a kingdom of love which will bring all people into unity with Him, a communion of love.
You can look forward to living in a kingdom rich in wine and fruit and never have to struggle or push through suffering and anguish again. God offers a life of abundance and happiness. It is a kingdom God envisions but it requires we pull together to create. If we bring suffering and anguish to others, we also receive the same in return. Be grateful and share that gratefulness with others.
What kind of kingdom do you seek? Do you believe you can help create the kingdom of God?
