When he had left, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.” John 13:31 NABRE
Jesus challenges Judas to do what he plans on doing, which is to turn Jesus over to the temple authorities to be arrested. When Judas leaves, Jesus says, now the Son of Man is glorified. The glory is the presence of God, when the Son of Man declares He is glorified He is saying that He has been obedient to the wishes of God and God has become present fully in Him. Jesus’ passion is initiated, and cannot be reversed, God’s presence will be known. This connection between the Son and the Father is a unity that puts both in full communion. This is God’s plan, that we become glorified in God and so God is fully present in our being and we are fully witnesses of God’s will. This witness is us doing the will of God, and when we are seen doing God’s will God is gloried. People see us and they see God. Jesus is declaring He is glorified and now all He does is God in Him doing it.
It seems odd timing, Judas has gone off to bring authorities for Jesus’ arrest and Jesus declares this glorifies God. God’s plan is to demonstrate complete and full love. Jesus’ understanding Judas plan knows what is coming will be difficult, but it is God’s plan for the fullness of humanity. It is about love and Jesus fulfilling all God’s declaration of this love. So though it is an undesirable set of events, God turns it into good. We know Jesus’ suffering is a declaration of love for all. We should fully give ourselves over to God and His will and we too glorify God who will in turn glorify us. God will be fully present in our being and seeing us others see God.
What does God need you to do today? Do you see glorification of God?
We know Jesus’ suffering is a declaration of love for all. We should fully give ourselves over to God and His will and we too glorify God who will in turn glorify us.
