Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, Matthew 5:23 NABRE
Jesus teaches about relationships and maintaining a loving approach to others, particularly those considered brothers and sisters in our community. Jesus is against contentious relationship between His followers, His major message models love. If you say you love God, then you must love your brothers and sisters. If you love your brother and sister then you will not hold anything against them nor will you do something that breaks the relationship. But, Jesus knows humans will have sinful or immoral behaviors and this may impact our relationships with others. Jesus says there is no positive effect if we bring a gift to God, when we have an outstanding issue with our brother or sister. God loves to receive whatever gift we have to offer, but not when we have contention with another of His children. Jesus teaches we should always return to our brother or sister whom we have an issue and make things right. Whatever is required of us to fix a relationship, to apologize, or make some sort of reconciliation, this is necessary before we will find out gift accepted by God.
The types of gifts God receives tends to be prayer, love and perhaps a tithe to His church. God accepts our love, prayer and tithe, knowing what we offer is an act of love. This is why it is so important that we not have issues with others, because to love God fully we must also love His children. If we have a broken relationship with someone, then it is a crack in our relationship with God as well. We shall always seek reconciliation with others and in doing so God is free to accept our gift.
Do you have broken relationships? Can you love God and not love all God loves?
If we have a broken relationship with someone, then it is a crack in our relationship with God as well. We shall always seek reconciliation with others and in doing so God is free to accept our gift.
