If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. Mark 3:24 NABRE
Accused of being possessed by a demon, Jesus asks, how can Satan drive our Satan? Jesus points out a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. Abraham Lincoln recycles these words before the American Civil War. Any community, be it a kingdom, a country, a church or a household fighting itself, no good can come from it. We seem to be in this same place today as the country of the United States. We seem to always want to disagree with one another and we are disagreeable about it. We express our thoughts on how wrong the “other side” is and then we cancel them or do something to make sure they know they are our enemy. Without some change for unity followers of Jesus will be fighting each other as well. We are blasted every day with “bad news” from “news” broadcast, social media mechanisms and just word of mouth. Even if we try to avoid the finger pointing and constant barrage of them versus us, it finds its way into our orbit. Add to that a life lived at a blistering pace we all seem to have a life nobody is enjoying. This is hard on our soul. Jesus wants us to know we can go to Him and He can restore us, our soul, our peace, our lives. Jesus tells us “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28.)
We must take a pause several times a day to seek Jesus. We must find a way to be detached from everything that is blasted at us. We must find a way to be more concerned with unity than rightness or winning. The divisions in a kingdom not only destroy the kingdom, it destroys all the members of the kingdom, besides their soul, their peace. Take time away from everything just to be with God, daily, multiple times a day.
Do you hit pause on all the noise in your life? Do you seek Jesus for peace?
The divisions in a kingdom not only destroy the kingdom, it destroys all the members of the kingdom, besides their soul, their peace.
