Afterward he journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve Luke 8:1 NABRE
Jesus continues His ministry in and near Galilee, accompanying Him are the apostles and also a group of women disciples. Jesus’ mission is preaching and proclaiming the good news and the content of His preaching continues to be the kingdom of God. Luke tells of a small community of people traveling together at the behest of Jesus, working with Him. We read about the Twelve, some women who Luke names and will later describe as being at the foot of the cross as Jesus is crucified. The women are with Him because He has cured them of illness or cast away demons and some are wealthy and can finance these mission trips. Jesus has reached out to many, including gentiles, for Jesus all are welcome into the community He is forming. What is noteworthy about this small passage from Luke is how Jesus is doing what He said He would do, seeking and finding the lost. Jesus travels to the people, He doesn’t expect people to come to Him. Jesus’ mission too important to sit, waiting for people to show up with questions or a desire in their heart. Jesus journeys with His troupe preaching and proclaiming the good news.
Today Jesus is still going to the hearts of those lost, He isn’t waiting for some religious or spiritual event, rather Jesus uses every aspect of our lives to make a movement in our hearts that we will notice and turn toward Him. Of course Jesus requires our attention so the movement in our heat has to be at the right time. It is important we have a home community to refresh and restore us, but never underestimate Jesus working in us in the world to bring good news to all willing to hear.
