Matthew 18:19 – August 11, 2021

Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. Matthew 18:19 NABRE

Jesus is teaching His disciples about how to work with a brother or sister who sins and remains in the community. First, speak to them, if that does not work, go to them with two or three others to speak to them and finally if that doesn’t work bring the matter before the church who represents God and speak to them about what it will take for them to better themselves. Jesus’ message is always about finding the lost not punishing the guilty, turning others to a righteous path is paramount in Jesus’ desires. Jesus further codifies the message by saying when two gather to pray about something they agree on, their prayer is granted by God. Some think this message is connected to the brother or sister who sins, but really Jesus says it in a way that it will work for any prayer. When you really need something, when you really believe something is for the good, sit with another, or two friends, talk about it and pray together that God will grant it. Remember always pray first for the will of God, not your own will.

This message is powerful, two can be granted any prayer if they agree. Husband and wife praying for a baby, a young couple praying about their life together, two elderly parents praying for their grandchildren. This is a great message for couples to come together and pray for what is needed. Always recall Jesus has come for the lost, so praying for others to return to Jesus honors His mission and should be a constant prayer. But couples should embody this passage and always pray in agreement, they will see their heavenly Father grant their prayer.

Who do you pray with? Can you agree with others about a prayer?

A great message for couples is to come together and pray for what is needed, embody Jesus message on praying together in agreement, they will see their heavenly Father grant their prayer. Click To Tweet
