Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. Matthew 11:26 NABRE
Jesus has a prayer that He speaks to God, it is a prayer of praise. As He often does Jesus refers to God as Father, in His own language the word may be Abba, an intimate and familiar word children might use for their parents. Jesus also teaches those closest to Him to refer to God as Father, as well. In teaching His disciples how to pray He tells them to begin “Our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:9). This address is not new, the Lord has long been revered as the “Father” of Israel. But there doesn’t seem to be much evidence that the Jews regularly invoked God as Father in private or public prayer. As Jesus is praying and praising, He is grateful for what His Father has done revealing to His disciples things hidden from the wise. It is God’s will that those closest to Jesus, who have come to form Christian community, know more about Jesus than the religious scholars who often oppose Jesus. The disciples are willing to embrace the mystery of Jesus and it has nothing to do with their intelligence or level of education, they are recipients of grace which comes from their Father in heaven. Jesus knows this grace has come from God and is grateful that His Father’s will is to include these disciples on Jesus journey.
The disciples were open to receive God’s grace to know Jesus and the mystery He has come to reveal. As fishermen, tax collectors and others it isn’t their role to know scripture but with God’s grace they are able to witness the most important message of their time. We too can receive the grace of knowing Jesus, if we pray to our Father, asking for the grace of revelation. Receiving grace we can know Jesus intimately.
How well do you know Jesus? Are you open to ask your Father for more knowledge?
We can receive the grace of knowing Jesus, if we pray to our Father, asking for the grace of revelation. Receiving grace we can know Jesus intimately.
