My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. You will look for me, and as I told the Jews, “Where I go you cannot come,” so now I say it to you. John 13:33 NABRE
Jesus is speaking to His disciples, a farewell message, sharing what life will be like after His resurrection and ascension. A key message Jesus shares is He will be with them a little while longer, after they will look for Him and not find him. Then He tells them where He is going they cannot come. Jesus has told this same message to the religious authorities, previously. Jesus is a trail blazer, He is walking a journey that has not be taken before. Jesus needs to carry His cross, die, rise and ascend to His Father. When He gets to His Father He will make a dwelling place for His disciple and for us. The important point is where Jesus is going; to the Father who sent Him. It doesn’t seem to be a message that His disciples will remember, but it is key. As Jesus goes He sets the path for all of us. Jesus relationship with His Father is everything, Jesus completely defines His identity, origin, mission and destination and returning to His Father as what He wants for all of us. But Jesus must do it first, and no one can go with Him until He is done. Jesus will tell His disciples that He is going to prepare a place for them. This should make them rejoice!
We who follow Jesus get to follow where He has gone. He is no longer with us in the flesh but sent the Spirit to dwell within us. We can only imagine the beauty of the place Jesus has created for us. But, knowing how much Jesus has done for us, we can be assured where He is where we will want to be more than any other place.
Are you following Jesus? Do you want to go where Jesus has gone?
We can only imagine the beauty of the place Jesus has created for us. But, knowing how much Jesus has done for us, we can be assured where He is where we will want to be more than any other place.
