He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.” Mark 4:24 NABRE
Mark is quoting Jesus on the mystery of hiddenness. Jesus indicates that what we think is hidden is not hidden forever, that all things will be known. Jesus also questions why would we keep something hidden, do we light a lamp and then hide it under a basket so the light is shut out? Obviously not. Jesus will say if we have ears we should hear. In other words we should consider what He is saying, His words should be reflected upon and considered prayerfully and deeply. Jesus will continue by saying care for what you hear, we will profit from Jesus’ words and teachings if we pay measured attention to them and if we strive to understand, God will give us still more understanding then we could attain on our own. Anyone who responds to Jesus with openness and a readiness to learn, more insight will be given, anyone who does not will lose even what little understanding they have. God’s revelation is a gift, but it is a gift that must be freely accepted.
It is through daily interaction with God that we are imbued with the light of Christ. Jesus is the light and we should not hide Him from others. We should be ready to share all we know about Jesus and by doing so remove any mystery that people may think exists in Christ. Our openness to receiving insight indicates to God we want more and God will give us all the insight we desire, making us perfect vessels to share the light of the world.
Do you hide the light? Are you open to additional insight from God?
Our openness to receiving insight indicates to God we want more and God will give us all the insight we desire, making us perfect vessels to share the light of the world.
