Let the wicked forsake their way, and sinners their thoughts; Let them turn to the LORD to find mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. Isaiah 55:7 NABRE
Isaiah is calling the people to conversion, this section of his prophecy spoken first for the people in exile in Babylon, a call to return home to Jerusalem. It is a call to take advantage of the salvific gifts so generously offered; Come to the waters, seek the Lord, let the wicked forsake their way. But it is also a call to all people at all times. It is God making an everlasting covenant with all people ultimately sealed by Jesus Christ, God’s pledge of salvation for all humanity. In order to return home we must return to God. The Lord allows Himself to be found for those who do not judge as society judges but is willing to be forgiving and merciful. If we look to God we can be profoundly forgiven because God is all goodness and He abundantly pardons. It is truly a call to conversion, repentance, a change of direction in our life. Turning to the Lord we find mercy, and generous forgiveness. God knows we are easily tempted and can be lazy, calling for us to change and when we do He helps our life flourish. Additionally, when we fall off track God gives us another chance, and another and another, infinitely. Jesus tells us to forgive infinitely as God does (see Mathew 18:21-22.)
As God forgives us we are asked to forgive others. It seems in this time of divided political opinion there is more we are against than for, but as Christians we are challenged to be for others. In the end our political point of view will be quite irrelevant, it is only how we love that affects our life. Know love and know God, no love and no God.
How do you forgive? Do you love others or judge others?
As Christians we are challenged to be for others, our political point of view will be quite irrelevant, it is only how we love that affects our life. Know love and know God, no love and no God.
