Therefore, we who are receiving the unshakable kingdom should have gratitude, with which we should offer worship pleasing to God in reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28 NABRE
The letter to the Hebrews is constantly encouraging us to draw near to God with boundless trust and confidence. Our God is the same holy God the Israelites encountered on Mount Sinai. They learned to worship God, though often have forgotten faith. God always reminds them to look to Him with confidence, the one true holy God. We should recognize from this passage and the entire letter that the God we worship is the same holy and awesome God that thundered on Mount Sinai. God never changes, but we change, we are changed by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. We are empowered to live a holy life, offered as a pleasing sacrifice to God. We should never reject the one who speaks, through the life of Christ, offering forgiveness and redemption. We are receiving the unshakeable, everlasting kingdom that God has promised, a promise fulfilled by Jesus.
Our response should be gratitude, giving thanks always for everything in the name of Jesus. With gratitude we offer worship pleasing to God in reverence and awe. The offering we present is our own lives, offered in loving service to God and to neighbor. Christians today have a central component in worship, celebrating God, thankful for all God has done in our lives. It is a time to unite ourselves with Christ in His eternal offering to the Father. We too offer ourselves, this is the gratitude we show, it is what we do when we fully accept Christ in our lives. God is always looking out for us, we show thanks by loving neighbor, being selfless and serving those God loves.
How do you worship God? Are you ready to enter the everlasting kingdom?
