And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it [on] the last day. John 6:39 NABRE
In this chapter of the gospel of John, Jesus teaches about God providing life-giving bread from heaven. Jesus identifies Himself as this bread of life in whom God makes good on His promises of salvation. The Father works to bring people to Jesus and give them eternal life. Jesus the obedient Son accepts all who come to Him, moved by the Father, doing the Father’s will by giving believers a share in the resurrection and eternal life. Jesus will never drive away those given Him by the Father because He only does the Father’s will. Jesus specifies two things that are specific to the Father’s will; I should not lose anything of what He gave me and second that I should raise it [on] the last day. The Father wills the salvation of all humanity through Jesus. The work of salvation includes resurrection which is the Father’s revelation of love. Thus by doing the work of salvation, Jesus reveals the Father’s love for all humanity. Jesus also desires to draw us into relationship with Him and the Father. It is not insignificant that Jesus declares He will not lose anyone. The meme we can think of is Jesus leaving ninety-nine sheep to find the one lost. We have trouble making sense of this logic, but we see it here, Jesus promises not to lose even one. So if you are human you have the Son of God working to keep you in relationship with Him.
Are you aware of Jesus’ great desire for relationship with you? You may think Jesus does not respond to your prayer, but before you even get out of bed Jesus is checking in with you, so He knows you are fine. Love is God peeking at His child while sleeping.
Have you been given to Jesus? Are you aware of Jesus desire to know you?
