Wait for the LORD, take courage; be stouthearted, wait for the LORD! Psalms 27:14 NABRE
This psalm of David begins by emphasizing two questions, the Lord is salvation and refuge. The Lord is a refuge that frustrates the attacks by enemies and He is to be found in the temple. David asks the Lord to hear him when he cries out to Him, reflecting intensely in prayer, then specifies the good things he desires, and finally he encourages himself to hope in the Lord. The psalm opens, the Lord is my light and my salvation, which reminds Christians of the connection with Jesus words; “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) David in this psalm tells us we should be single minded in our dedication to God’s service, not to be distracted from concentration on this one goal. The psalm contains a powerful line in verse 4, “One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, to gaze on the LORD’s beauty, to visit his temple.” Concluding David tells us to have confidence in our waiting, He will give us courage, if we are strong of heart, having faith and waiting in the Lord. Our hope should be in the Lord, making every effort to be strong in our waiting for the Lord who will reciprocate giving us courage of heart, we will have nothing to fear.
All courage and hope comes from the Lord. If we are open to trusting and having faith God will give us the strength to depend on Him. We may have times of doubt, feel challenged in life, feel like others are against us, but with God we will see the way to the light, we will seek the Lord always, we will gaze on His beauty and visit Him always. Trust God, wait in hope and faith.
Do you have faith God will strengthen you? Are you able to wait on the Lord?
