Bless the LORD, all you his hosts, his ministers who carry out his will. Psalms 103:21 NABRE
Like many psalms, this psalm praises God, the speaker of the psalm is praising God for personal benefits. The psalmist recognizes God’s mercy toward all people, even sin cannot destroy God’s mercy toward all people for God is aware of human fragility. It would seem unusual that the Lord should be blessed particularly by those who are hosts, language which typically means angels, the messengers of God, beings who have been created by God. Angels are often see as benevolent intermediaries between God and humanity. Other roles include protectors and guides for humans, and servants of God. We recognize angels throughout the history of God and people. Three angels are named Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, each with specific roles. Michael is an archangel who is like God, Michael is kind and stands up for the children of God. Gabriel which means God is my strength and performs acts of justice and power. Raphael is an archangel and is a healer for God, God’s healing force. Some would say there are legions of angels as God’s intermediaries for controlling the world. The psalmist turns all of this into a prayer and asked every one of God’s intermediaries to turn their energy and prayer to God.
We should take an example from the psalmist and seek out praise for God from everyone available. If we can depend on others to help in our prayer we can raise a voice that praises God every minute of every day. If angels are the intermediaries of God between humanity and God then it would seem faithful to depend on these intermediaries to bless and praise God.
Are you aware of the aid available from angels? Do you think it is a good idea to ask angels to bless God?
If angels are the intermediaries of God between humanity and God then it would seem faithful to depend on these intermediaries to bless and praise God.
