Lovers of your law have much peace; for them there is no stumbling block. Psalms 119:165 NABRE
Psalm 119 is divided into the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, David creating sets of verses for each letter of the alphabet. This section represents the letter shin, a familiar letter of the Hebrew alphabet, it is the twenty-first letter and it represents falsehood. In this section David is singing of the false princes who pursued him without cause and how he abhors falsehood because the truth of the Torah, the law, is his only joy. This represents his love for God. In the quoted verse we read that the law brings peace, those who follow the law will never falter or stumble, their path of life is smooth and straight. They will live with inner peace, tranquility and contentment. They will be satisfied with a divinely ordained portion of the world, with small needs which are easily satisfied. They will live without worry because they are people who are humble and rejoice in the most delightful blessing, peace of mind. We know this, when we follow the righteous path we have peace, when we push against the boundaries of law we worry and look over our shoulder wondering if we will be caught. For David it was the Torah, the law that he followed and brought him peace. For Christians Jesus declared a new command, love God and love others, which encompasses the entire law of the Torah.
As Christians we have peace when we follow this new law, we will have a life of peace avoiding stumbling blocks. Our life will be holy and righteous and we will have the Son of God dwelling within us, guiding our steps. We know without hearing the word of God, that a truthful life is always more peaceful than a life of falsehood. For peace we follow the law, as a Christian we follow Jesus law of love.
Do you know peace? Are you a follower of the law of love?
We know without hearing the word of God, that a truthful life is always more peaceful than a life of falsehood. For peace we follow the law, as a Christian we follow Jesus law of love.
