The LORD is with me to the end. LORD, your mercy endures forever. Never forsake the work of your hands! Psalms 138:8 NABRE
This is a psalm of praise of the Lord for benefit’s received. The psalmist wants all the kings of the earth to praise the Lord and to acknowledge He is great and recognize all truth is in the Lord. This praise of the Lord is projected through the life of Jesus with even greater ambition. The evidence is in Jesus Christ living with humble obedience, doing all in the name of God and openly speaking about doing the will of His Father. In fact we are able to read in the writings from Paul how God exults Jesus for His obedience; “God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11) Jesus praises and points to God with such obedience that Jesus Himself is exalted and God is glorified through Jesus Christ. This psalm encourages us all to praise, obey, and give glory to God, by so doing God will take care of us as He has taken care of Jesus. God will be with us to the end, He will be merciful to us forever and God will always assist with the work of our hands. We should always be grateful to God and depend on God’s assistance in our journey.
If we think we can go it alone, we are welcome to try. However great success, happiness in life, great joy in the world comes when we are in communion with others, depending on one another and most especially depending on the Lord. We point to God as the one and God is glorified through us. Don’t be alone, join in the community of God and change the world.
What do you think of God? How do you feel about obedience?
