For the LORD takes delight in his people, honors the poor with victory. Psalms 149:4 NABRE
Although this psalm is near the end of the collection of psalms, it is not intended to be an ending. The people of God will raise their voices to God continually and will continue to plead with God and sing songs of praise. Though the collection of psalms end, the psalms spoken and sung to the Lord continue constantly. This psalm challenges Israel to sing praise to God with dancing as Israel constitutes the assembly of the faithful that the Lord Himself has created and in whom He delights! A general call to offer liturgical praise introduces the psalm and specifically addresses the people, they should rejoice first because they delight in the Lord and then they should offer praise so that they may be triumphant. The Lord will make His people instruments of His victory. The psalm repeatedly mentions the Lord’s faithful. The psalm speaks of a victory of the people of God and of vengeance on those who have oppressed them. The Lord delights in His people as their creator, as any parent who loves their children, the Lord delights in His people. He honors those humble and poor, watching over them and giving them success. God is the maker and true leader of the people, so it behooves the people to offer solemn and liturgical praise, for He has granted them salvation.
We too are the creation of God and we should be pleased with how the Lord watches over us and gives us victory. We may not get the victory or success we desire, what the world would have us seek, but with consistent prayer and clinging to the Lord we will be successful on behalf of our creator, our maker. Turn to the Lord, and we too will find honor and victory for the Lord.
Do you praise and sing to the Lord? Do you want victory for God?
With consistent prayer and clinging to the Lord we will be successful on behalf of our creator, our maker. Turn to the Lord, and we too will find honor and victory for the Lord.
