Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man. Luke 21:36 NABRE
Jesus is teaching his disciples and telling them there will be a time when He will come again. That time will be imbued with many signs that indicate the end of times. There will be natural disasters and phenomenon that will frighten people to death because these will be events and occurrences never seen before. Just as when a tree begins to blossom near the end of winter, telling all who are aware that spring is near, the coming of Jesus a second time will be filled with signs telling those who can see that something big is about to happen. Jesus tells them to be vigilant, be alert, be ready. There will be those who will not escape the tribulations and He is telling his disciples they should pray that they are able to escape. Escaping tribulation they may stand before the Son of Man and be judged. This judgment will determine how they will spend their eternal life. In this discussion Jesus predicts the temple will be destroyed within a generation and those who were with him that live the next forty years saw this predication come to pass.
None of us know when our end will come, it could come with the tribulations of the end of time or through a long healthy life and natural death or even through a surprising accident that cuts life short. No matter how life ends for us we must be ready to meet judgement. We are ready by living the message Jesus taught, by loving others and loving God. It is not possible to get a two minute warning as occurs in many sports, giving us a chance to get our life in order, we must keep ourselves in order always and never fear a tragic judgment.
Do you live the life of a follower of Jesus? Will the tribulations predicted catch you off guard?
No matter how life ends for us we must be ready to meet judgement. We are ready by living the message Jesus taught, by loving others and loving God.
