At that time Jesus said in reply, “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Matthew 11:25 NABRE
We are given a special view into the relationship between Jesus and the Father. Jesus is praying privately to the Father something rarely seen in the scripture writings, although we do see Jesus go off to pray alone often. Jesus addresses prayer to Father, and while many Hebrews would have seen God as Father, none prayed to Him as Father. Jesus almost always refers to God as Father. We are all children of God, and as children God is or Father, as revealed to us by the Son. But there is a mutual divine knowledge between Father and Son, Jesus knows the Father in a way we do not. Jesus begins the prayer by giving praise to the Father, Lord of heaven and earth. Jesus acknowledges that God is revealing Himself to Jesus’ followers, referred to as childlike. This revelation is more than the religious leaders of the time would know about God, as Jesus remarks, although God has hidden things from the wise and learned. It does not require a degree in theology or any special education to know God, the most childlike can know God completely by being open to the grace from God and welcoming a personal relationship with God.
Letting God into your life you accept the Holy Spirit who comes with gifts that help us know God; especially wisdom, understanding and knowledge. The Son reveals the Father and sends the Spirit, we know them all if we are open to receiving and accepting Jesus’ message in our life. We are blessed with this knowledge because of God’s gracious will. Without God’s willing we would know nothing.
Do you pray to God as Father? Do you allow God into your life, revealing all He wishes to reveal to you?
