For our sake he made him to be sin who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 NABRE
Paul begins to speak about reconciliation. God has reconciled us to Himself through Christ giving us a ministry of reconciliation. As we become incorporated into the Body of Christ, through baptism, we are one with Christ. We walk in the way of Christ, as if who Christ is we become. Christ is a new life, and so we have new life. Christ is righteous and so we become righteous. Christ is a new creation and we become a new creation. Jesus passing from cross to death to resurrection brings us all to Himself, a new creation into which we become. Paul is sharing this message of reconciliation as an ambassador. Christ who was sinless took on a sacrificial role, He made us free of sin and our trespasses forgiven. Paul expresses we are free of sin and reconciled thanks to Christ. He says he is appealing to us to be reconciled, in other words to accept reconciliation and become righteous like Christ. This message of reconciliation and being made righteous is a real mystery that requires faith. God will do anything to make it possible for us to be free from trespasses and able to be one with Him. This oneness is not only with God but with one another. It is necessary that we not be sinners to be in this intimate community so that all will be perfect. Through Christ we are free of our desire to be the best, have the most and compete; rather we seek the others best interest. This makes the Kingdom of God a place of joy and fulfillment for all.
For us we should live as forgiven people who love one another and God, in a close community called the Kingdom of God. It just takes faith.
Do you understand this mystery? Have you ever reconciled yourself with someone?
