I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel with my eye upon you. Psalms 32:8 NABRE
Psalm thirty-eight is a psalm of the Lord granting forgiveness if a person acknowledges their sin. It begins with the author (the psalm is attributed to King David) proclaiming happiness for being pardoned by God. Then the author describes how he suffered physically and morally prior to confessing to God. He acknowledges his sin and decides to seek the Lord and look for forgiveness. He knows from experience that all believers will obtain pardon if they seek out the Lord, no matter how severe their transgression or the prescribed punishment. The author also tells the Lord how much he trusts in Him. It is at this point in the psalm we have the quoted verse with the Lord responding, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel with my eye upon you.” The Lord promises to help allowing the author to lead an upright life. If we fail to listen to the Lord’s word we wouldn’t be very smart and our suffering will continue. But the person who listens to the Lord will rejoice. The Lord loves forgiving and wants to be near those who open their heart so He may forgive. True happiness comes when we are connected to God, upright and righteous. Being happy in the Lord is the more interesting way to live and allows for us to influence others to become happy.
When we fall away from God we can quickly get reset by seeking forgiveness. Forgiveness not only puts us right in the Lord but it makes us feel better about ourselves. God wants us to be happy and so desires we seek Him out when we are in trouble. Through the Lord all can be made right.
Do you recognize those times when you have offended? Do you seek forgiveness when you have wronged?
When we fall away from God we can quickly get reset by seeking forgiveness. Forgiveness not only puts us right in the Lord but it makes us feel better about ourselves.
