You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know. Psalms 139:13-14 NABRE
Psalm 139 speaks about God’s gaze on us being everywhere. No matter where we are or what we do God is with us. God knows everything about us. God knows when we sit, stand, our thoughts, God even knows what we are going to say. The psalm says God rest His hand upon us and it is wonderful. God is with us when we ascend, even in the grave God is with us. God guides us, a steady guide for our path. In the dark God sees us because darkness is not dark for God. Then we hear, God formed us, in our mother’s womb God knit us, and all praise goes to God because we have been wonderfully made and well known by God. Every cell of us is known and important to God. Continuing the psalm tells how precious we are to God. Our days were shaped before one day existed in our life. The only place God can’t see us is with the wicked. Those who plot against God are not our company, God knows our heart is pure. Our prayer; God will clear the wicked from our path. It is a psalm showing God as omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and God’s holiness bringing us to holiness.
Imagine if we lived our life as if we believed God’s significance to our creation, our forming, our growing, our becoming and in every moment of our life God is with us, guiding us, protecting us and watching over us. Imagine what we could accomplish if we lived with this confidence, knowing God created us for a reason, that our existence is important to God’s plan for eternity. We are challenged to live knowing this truth.
If you lived as if you whole-heartedly believed this psalm, how would you be different? What can convince you God thinks of you this way?
