The first man was from the earth, earthly; the second man, from heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:47 NABRE
In his letter to the community at Corinth Paul tries to address resurrection and in particular how the resurrected will appear. He makes the connection between the first human, Adam made from the dust of the earth and who he refers to as the second human, Jesus, made from heavenly “dust.” We can imagine after resurrection we will not be recognizable as we were during our earthly life. This summation is made from what we know about Jesus; after His resurrection, at first sight those who knew Him did not recognize Him. But when He spoke He became known, so we know He was still Himself.
Paul will comment that the resurrected life is incorruptible, glorious, powerful and spiritual. Resurrection is one place where the spiritual and physical meet. Made in the image of God we become like God in our life, resurrected we join more fully with God and this is not anything we will completely understand, perhaps even when we experience it we may not understand it. Paul makes a valiant attempt to provide information about resurrection but I know we are not satisfied, we want to understand the spiritual realm more fully. We only have Jesus who is resurrected that we have information about, and we immediately turn Him into God and can’t accept that what He lives we will live the same.
Do you understand how you will look resurrected? Have you encountered the spiritual?
The resurrected life is incorruptible, glorious, powerful and spiritual. it is where the spiritual and physical meet.
