Blessed are those who dwell in your house! They never cease to praise you. Psalms 84:5 NABRE
This psalm was inspired by David’s experiences when he fled from Saul and sought refuge in the foreign lands. On foreign soil, far removed from home and the spiritual center of Israel, David yearned for the Holy Ark and the sacrificial altar. David with this psalm is sharing an innermost longing of lonely exile, inspiring those separated from their home, now and into the future. The verse quoted refers to those working in the house of the Lord; pastors and ministers, those doing their all each week to inspire others to connect with the Lord and with a community of believers. Many who serve meditate for an hour in preparation for their worship, prayers and services. Today we can all take extra time to pray and be with God, praising God for all we have and all the gifts of our lives. In these times of isolation the house of the Lord looks different than what we commonly see. We must make home a place where the Lord dwells. House churches expanded Jesus’ mission. The community is the people. Jesus answering the question of one of his disciples says, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.” (John 14:23) God dwells in you and so the house of the Lord can be in you. You can find ways to pray together at home, to break bread and to praise God. Place a cross on your doorpost and let the virus pass over you.
There is no need to save praise of God until Sunday, take time with those in your household to pray every day. Praise God and no matter how you think tomorrow will be, today is amazing, be thankful.
