From the rising of the sun to its setting let the name of the LORD be praised. Psalms 113:3 NABRE
Psalms 113 is the beginning of a set of Psalms known as the Hallel (praise). The Hallel is included in liturgy of the Hebrew people particularly the Passover. During their enslavement in Egypt no one said the Hallel, the Jews were servants to the Pharaoh. But after their liberation they could be considered servants to God. So when God redeemed them from Egypt they said the Hallel. When God wrought His miracles in Egypt, the entire world was aware of it, and sang His praise. Even pagans in Egypt came to know the one true God. God, can say because of the raising of the sun to its setting, My name is praised. The Jews leaving Egypt became a sign that would amaze the entire world. At the time praise for God was even heard from idolaters in the furthest corners of the earth. The sun’s daily journey across the sky is a source of wonder which prompts humanity to praise God. Sunrise symbolizes good times and rising expectations, while sunset symbolizes decline. The Jewish nation and each individual member have experienced these two aspects in life. But whatever we undergo, whether God smiles on us or frowns, God’s name is praised by us. Always recognizing God’s ways are just, we always bless Him in every situation.
Do we praise God’s name as though our every breath depended upon Him. We have come to understand science and astrology knowing what forces are at work that have the sun rise and set in our eyes each and every day, but without the creator of the universe, all this force and dependability would add up to nothing. With God we can depend on light and dark, breath and life therefore we should be thankful.
Do you thank and praise God daily? If not what do you praise every day?
Do we praise God's name as though our every breath depended upon Him. With God we can depend on light and dark, breath and life therefore we should be thankful.
