And all this is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and given us the ministry of reconciliation, 2 Corinthians 5:18 NABRE
Paul writing to the community at Corinth is speaking in this section about reconciliation. Jesus’ main ministry is healing, and then preaching. Jesus entire life is about healing, some physical but much of the physical healing includes forgiveness of sin. We carry with us brokenness recalling all the good we have not done. Paul says in Romans “What I do, I do not understand. For I do not do what I want, but I do what I hate.” (7:15) He is essentially saying he wants to do good but somehow he does something not good. We say that human nature is a sinful nature, we think first of ourselves and justifying why we do for our self at the detriment of the other. Paul tells the reader there is healing, he calls it the ministry of reconciliation. Relationships are broken, we call this sin, we put space between us and God. The sin of Adam is something that all humanity has in themselves. The death of Jesus is a death of this sin inheritance, just as with Adam all sin, with Jesus’ death all are redeemed. Jesus redemption is a reconciliation restoring the relationship with God. The center of the Christian life is healing. Paul tells us all is from God, including the reconciling between Himself and us through the redemption of Christ. Now with Christ we have the means to restore our relationship with God.
The ministry of reconciliation is Paul’s call as an apostle, to proclaim that healing, reconciliation is available thanks to the redemption of Christ. We died in Christ (our death occurs in baptism) and reconciled to God. It doesn’t mean we won’t sin, but we have the means to ask for forgiveness and discover God already has reconciled with us.
Do you carry guilt? Do you know how to be healed in Jesus?
