But the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the LORD’s glory, just as the water covers the sea. Habakkuk 2:14 NABRE
The prophet Habakkuk calls himself a watchmen listening for the Lord’s message. He tells of things he saw as an oracle for God and he also includes writing that contains a prayer from him. In the section which includes the quoted verse Habakkuk is saying “woe” (the biblical word for trouble on those who are receiving the woe) against oppressors, and he is complaining about the wickedness of people. This quoted verse follows a complaint about people who use violence to get what they want, particularly leadership and wealth. But the prophet goes on to say that God’s sovereignty is over all things, the earth is filled with the knowledge of His glory. But the prophet trust in a guarantee that things will change because the oppressors rely on small gods, they worship idols and make “things” their passion. But we have the God of the Universe, God Almighty. He will impose justice and no one can deny or contradict Him. Once we know God, meaning we are aware of His presence, power, perfection then we want to be part of Him. This “know” doesn’t mean we know Him intellectually, rather we have an experience, we are touched by God in a personal way and truly understand there is no more desirous power available. Then we stand in awe and ready to give all of our self in love.
As you seek things in your life, do it through the knowledge of God. Seek wisdom through God. Seek daily bread through God. Seek shelter through God. Seek all good through God. God wants your best and knows what is best for you. Don’t be fooled by the treasure of the world, seek only treasure from God.
Do you truly know God, through an experience? Are you seeking what is best for you through God?
