Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19 NABRE
Paul gives an understanding of the Trinity in the quoted verse. Paul speaks about the Holy Spirit, God, being within us. Paul is speaking to Christians in the community of Corinth so we believe it is through Baptism and conversion that the Holy Spirit enters our body. However every Christian may not realize they have the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, yet it is still true. Since we have God in us we are a temple, a tabernacle, a place that is holy and sacred. This place is our body, not our soul, not our intelligence, or heart, or finger; our entire body is the dwelling of the Holy Spirit. We are the home of the most Holy God. As such Paul tells us we are not our own, our body is ours and God’s. We must live welcoming God and be hospitable to what is good for God. We should avoid immoral behavior, bringing sinfulness near God. We should live for others, in service and love so they may meet God in us. We must be an example and imitator of Christ who made the Holy Spirit available to us through His Resurrection and Ascension. But always we must remember that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God and we must always respect the gift. This means we must treat our bodies as holy places, where God can live and thrive and all who come to know us come to know God.
Do you treat your body as if it were special? It is your body that is the home of God. We must treat our bodies with respect and sacredness. Only bringing the best into our lives and letting the best come from who we are in body. We have been made divine through Christ and should always meet others with love.
Are you aware that your body is a temple, a sacred place? How do you treat your body?
Since we have God in us we are a temple, a tabernacle, a place that is holy and sacred. This place is our body, not our soul, not our intelligence, or heart, or finger; our entire body is the dwelling of the Holy Spirit.
