Justice guards one who walks honestly, but sin leads the wicked astray. Proverbs 13:6 NABRE
God created the world and established equity and justice. He is regarded as the source and guardian of justice because justice and righteousness are His very nature, His attributes. Justice and judging are closely related, as Judge God administers justice by punishing those whose conduct makes the lives of others difficult. God provides retribution to all people according to their just deserts. God is portrayed as having special concern for the poor, the widow, the orphan and the oppressed. So when looking at justice it is important to look at the rights of the poor. God establishes justice in the world by eliminating inequities. Therefore those who are treated by others unjustly appeal to God to intervene so their rights might be restored. Sin is missing a specified goal or mark, it is a willful, knowledgeable violation of a norm and it is an inequity before God. Sin is a breaking of a relationship, it ruptures the relationship between creator and created. Justice and sin both are central to God. When we are honest, we are just in the eyes of God. When we are led astray we are sinful in the eyes of God.
As disciples we should look at all we do and how it reflects in God’s eyes. When we love, we please the One who is justice and righteousness. When we are vengeful we walk away from God. No matter what we think is happening between ourselves and others, there is always an effect on our relationship with God. To please God we must honor others. If we hurt someone we displease God. Thankfully, Jesus taught us about forgiveness. If you offend someone ask for their forgiveness. If you see someone who needs help, help.
Do you believe God is justice? Do you seek forgiveness when after offending others?
