If there is no resurrection of the dead, then neither has Christ been raised. 1 Corinthians 15:12 NABRE
Paul addresses those who have trouble believing in the resurrection of the dead. He stands convinced that if Christ rose from the dead, then the members of Christ body will rise. We are members of the Body of Christ through the grace of God. Paul uses reverse argument saying if the members do not rise then Christ does not rise. Of course, if there is no resurrection of the dead then all faith is wrong and false, because a key belief is Christ rose from the dead, resurrection. It is an important message in Paul’s teaching, resurrection, but as significant, we understand his teaching encompasses and includes whatever happens to Christ happens to all members of the Body of Christ. If Christ rises, then we rise. Christ is the communion of everything and in Christ we all have life. Christ is our hope.
We struggle with the idea of resurrection because we witness death but we don’t see the resurrected person. Resurrection is mystery for sure. Some of those who knew Jesus saw Him risen from the dead, Paul tells us He appeared to five hundred after he rose (1 Corinthians 15:6.) Therefore, some who read Paul’s letter know Jesus rose and it is conceivable others rose as well. Today we require faith, as we do not see anyone come back from the dead. But new life is our hope and so we belong to Christ and hope in life.
Do you believe in resurrection? Have you thought about your life after your death?
