(and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Luke 2:35 NABRE
After the birth of Jesus the Law of Moses must be honored. After eight days He is circumcised and named. After forty days Mary is to be purified, having a baby has made her unclean so she presents herself in the temple to be made clean once again. While at the temple the parents present Jesus as their first born son. This presentation and purification include meeting Simenon, described as righteous, right in the eyes of God. Simeon is promised by the Spirit to meet the anointed and visits the temple at the right time. Upon receiving Jesus He feels this promise is fulfilled, in Jesus he sees the anointed of God. Simenon proclaims God’s word, declaring salvation is revealed for all people, the Gentiles and the people of Israel. Mary and Joseph are amazed to hear these words spoken over their son. Directing a comment to Mary, Simeon declares, the child will be the fall and rise of many in Israel, He will be a sign of contradiction and the reason the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.
Jesus is not going to live quietly, interacting with those in His bubble and dying peacefully. Jesus makes a difference for all people, those who believe and those who do not, all hearts are exposed. The triune God sees the thoughts of our heart and our heart is discovered by the choice we make about God, Jesus and the Spirit. We are part of the Body of Christ whether we choose to be or not, an eye cannot declare it is not part of the body. What we decided to do is for all to know., if we accept Jesus or deny Him our thoughts are reveled. Jesus will later say it is by our fruit that we are known, it is the fruit we produce that reveals.
Are you aware your heart is revealed? Do you try to hide what is in your heart?
What we decided to do is for all to know., if we accept Jesus or deny Him our thoughts are reveled. Jesus will later say it is by our fruit that we are known, it is the fruit we produce that reveals.
