in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Luke 21:31 NABRE
Jesus speaks to those listening about signs. When a tree begins to bud we know spring is upon us. In the same way when we see things happening, know the kingdom of God is near. God’s kingdom has many dimension, Jesus expresses the kingdom of God coming often. We can bring about the kingdom of God by living as God desires; in kindness, love and caring for one another. Living with others as God desires begins to bring the kingdom of God, we will recognize it, it won’t’ be a consumer society it will be a generous society. Once we begin to establish the kingdom of God we can go deeper, as when Jesus walked the earth people had great faith, beyond just caring their faith had healing properties. Jesus is seen as the instrument of healing, but Jesus always declares it is faith that has healed or saved. Deep deep faith has the ability to make great change, defying the natural properties we understand bringing a cosmic energy that connects us more deeply and affects us more intensely, we live greater moments of grace. But for the fullness of the kingdom of God to appear it takes action from God’s. We can create fertile ground for the kingdom of God but the fullness requires God’s initiation and participation. This will be God’s act bringing an end to heaven and earth and creating a new state which has kindness, depth of knowledge (no need for faith) and full communion with God. It is the kingdom we hope to see.
Jesus anticipates changes and the coming of the kingdom of God. Jesus makes us aware there will be signs. He doesn’t elaborate about these signs, but I suspect we will know them when we see them. Be ready, be alert, be active.
