Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him because power came forth from him and healed them all. Luke 6:19 NABRE
Luke writes that Jesus spent a night in prayer on a mountain, after which He calls disciples to Himself, twelve, followed by a teaching in a plain, to the twelve, other disciples and a great multitude from all of Judea, Jerusalem and the gentile territories of Tyre and Sidon. The mention of these gentile areas is significant because these areas usually brought forth enemies and shows how from the beginning Jesus is able to cross boundaries to bring peace and unity. The crowds came because Jesus taught with such authority, His words awoke the hearts of those listening and they came because He healed. At that moment His presence drew people to touch Him because power came forth and healed. There is power in the name of Jesus, lyrics made popular by Christian songwriters and singers. It is a name that has no real power except that it identifies the Son of God, who became human to lead all who believe to the Father, God. It is declared powerful by Paul in a letter, “God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
Jesus has as much power today as He did in the moment when those who touched Him were healed. They had faith as we must and cling to the name, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Jesus has power that you can receive, to be awakened, healed and saved. Call on Jesus name, have power and know freedom.
