Who is like the LORD our God, enthroned on high, looking down on heaven and earth? He raises the needy from the dust, lifts the poor from the ash heap, Seats them with princes, the princes of the people, Psalms 113:5-8 NABRE
Psalm one hundred thirteen is a psalm of praise to God, knowing that His name is the Name above every other name. He is God, enthroned on high and yet looks from heaven onto earth. The God of the universe cares so much for us that he watches over us constantly, taking care to ensure our life is filled with all good. We have peace and good, from God who looks upon His creation with affection and love. The psalm tells us as God looks it is the needy, the lowly, those who the world see as helpless, despised, even useless that God lifts most. In God’s eyes it is those who are humble and know their dependence on God who are most favored. God sees those who are lowest and lifting them highest. The psalm indicates God lifts them to the height of princes, those coddled and babied and refused nothing their entire life. This is how God sees those most low, most needy. Paul says “God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something,” (1 Corinthians 1:28.)
When we think we are important, it comes from pride, or false success, God cannot work with those who declare themselves as mighty. The great name of God, calls on the lowest of the low to be an example, a witness for those who don’t depend on God as they should. Seeking to be low is how God finds us, He reveals His secrets to the humble and He draws them to Himself. The humble who have known disgrace receive grace, peace and good because they are in God, not in the world.
