He will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8 NABRE
The prophet Isaiah is sharing a hymn of thanksgiving for God. It praises God by name. God has help defeat a people that had taken over Jerusalem. The hymn expresses the joy felt by one who exalts the Lord at any time, in any place, rejoicing that God protects the weak and casts down the proud of heart. Then the hymn moves to a special feast for all the nations on Mount Zion. God will provide a succulent meal, food and wine, a divine feast, better than anything man could provide or imagine. This is a meal that prefigures the celebration of the Passover that Jesus celebrated with his disciples. Jesus’ Last Supper provides a divine feast of Christ’s own Body and Blood which will strengthen the soul of all who participate. Then God promises to wipe away death forever, He assures it will never happen again. It is Christ resurrection that marks the definitive victory over death. We have hope that we will share in the glory, every tear will be wiped away, at our bodily death we will see God, we shall become like Christ in glory, and we will praise God forever. God will remove His disapproval forever from the whole earth. God will be happy with all and bring hope and joy to all.
God reestablishes Jerusalem after an enemy has been defeated. God also offers a heavenly feast that cannot compare with anything we could find on earth. Combining these thoughts we can see that God wants us to enjoy heaven on earth, and after earth. We only need to live grateful lives, praising God and enjoying God’s feast. We live forever, celebrating forever.
Do you thank God? Do you feast with God?
We only need to live grateful lives, praising God and enjoying God’s feast. We live forever, celebrating forever.
