I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will declare all your wondrous deeds. Psalm 9:1 NABRE
Psalm 9 is a hymn of praise for the deliverance God brings and a petition for help against those who would do evil. The psalm begins with personal praise offered to God which is also an act of thanksgiving and glorification. The psalmist is so helped by God that he wants to declare to all, God’s wondrous deeds. The psalm goes on to explain the enemies have retreated thanks to God’s righteous judgement of all. The psalm invites others to join in praise of the God of Israel. We see in many psalms a pattern of recognizing that God has helped or saved the people of Israel, as voiced through the psalmist, then we see God judges and defeats the enemies of the people and the people declare all should praise God, their God is the one true God. We see this as a battle, nation again nation because God’s relationship was with the nation of Israel. With Jesus there is a new covenant between God and individuals, not a nation. We have the same God that helped and protected the nation of Israel, using that help for us individually.
Time and time again God comes to the aid of those downcast and in need. Their response is to sing praise and declare God’s wondrous deeds. We too should be declaring God’s deeds in our life. We as followers of Jesus have a knowledge that many people we may know aren’t privileged to enjoy. We don’t have to preach to tell people about God and Jesus, we can just tell people what is happening in our lives. We share stories of our kids, our accomplishments, the new “thing” we are enjoying, most of which we would not have without God. Don’t tell people you are lucky, tell them you are blessed.
Do you count your blessings? You are blessed as a disciple of Jesus, do you see it?
