How many say of me, “There is no salvation for him in God. Psalms 3:3 NABRE
King David is the attributed author of Psalm three. It is a psalm that is part of the morning prayer of the people. The psalm is a request to the Lord for help as the psalmist is being harassed by his enemies. First the psalmist describes the situation and declares his trust in God, he goes on to say how secure he feels with God as his protector and finally he asks God to intervene, and proclaims deliverance comes from the LORD. In the opening lines the psalmist dramatizes the situation, making out that he is being pursued by a host of enemies. What is most disconcerting for the psalmist is the claim of his enemies that God fails him. They announce to him, “There is no salvation for him in God.” But the psalmist goes on to say, the Lord is his protector and shield, God can ensure his victory, “his glory” over his opponents. Or course the LORD listens and the LORD delivers. The psalmist submission to the will of God, his praise and repentance is a model prayer for all people.
The faith of the people is so strong it is evident even to their enemies how much they trust God. The enemy tries to weaken them declaring God would not help them, God could not save them. It is an insult but the people’s faith and trust in God does not waver. We should be the same. We must stand steadfast with God, demonstrating the faith we have in God. A child is sad today, or hurting, let us take it in prayer to God. A mom needs rest and help, let us take it in prayer to God. A dad is working many extra hours to get ahead and provide for his family yet never sees them, let us take it in prayer to God. God is the one who answers prayer, we know we can depend on God.
Do you take what you need in prayer to God? Do you have faith God will save you?
The enemy tries to weaken us declaring God will not help us, God can not save us. It is an insult but our faith and trust in God does not waver.
